After missing the first four games of the 2002-2003 NLL season, Brian Spallina will return to the Saints' starting line-up on Saturday, January 25th when the Saints host the Rochester Knighthawks at the Nassau Coliseum.
The third-year defenseman from Rocky Point, NY and Hofstra University was sidelined due to a torn ACL suffered during play over the summer with the Long Island Lizards of the MLL. Earlier this week, Brian was cleared by team physicians to return to the turf after intense rehabilitation.
Spallina's return to the line-up will provide an immediate boost to the Saints defense which has allowed 60 goals through the team's first 4 games. He will also bring his leadership onto the field to help the numerous Saints rookies on the floor.
"I think everyone throughout this organization is excited to see Brian back on the floor. He's been itching to get out there since we opened training camp and he will undoubtedly provide the spark we currently need to get things going," said Team Owner and General Manager Michael Gongas. "There's a lot of parody in the league today, we had a rough start but I'm looking at this as the turning point for our season,"
The Saints find themselves 2.5 games out of the Eastern Division lead at this point but the NLL season is a marathon, not a sprint. "I can't wait to get out there. I've been trying to sneak out there since we opened camp in December and I'm glad to finally play again. It felt like forever, just having to watch everything," said Spallina.
