Week #7 Preview

02/04/2003, 2:27pm EST
By National Lacrosse League

The action gets underway early this week in the National Lacrosse League with two games taking place on Thursday evening. The first of the two games features an Eastern Division rematch from last weekend between the Colorado Mammoth and New York Saints. The Saints, who are still in search of their first victory of the season, will try and avenge a 19-13 loss road last Friday evening. All the action gets underway from Nassau Coliseum at 7:00 p.m.

Across the George Washington Bridge at the Continental Airlines Arena another Eastern Division match-up will take place just 30 minutes later when the Philadelphia Wings face-off against the New Jersey Storm at 7:30 p.m. The two clubs will be going head-to-head after splitting their season series last year, with both looking to move up in the standings. The game will be shown live on Fox Sports New York.

A pair of second place teams square off in Calgary when the Roughnecks play host to the Columbus Landsharks at 7:30 p.m. inside the Pengrowth Saddledome. After downing the Roughnecks two weeks ago 14-9 at home the Landsharks will be looking to claim the season series in 2002-2003 while the Roughnecks go for their third straight victory after sweeping Vancouver last weekend.

It will be an all Canadian match-up as the Ottawa Rebel travel to Toronto and the Air Canada Centre for a 7:30 p.m. showdown. The Rock, who sit atop the Northern Division look to not only claim the season the series from the Rebel but at the same time strengthen their hold on first place. The Rebel on the other hand are hoping to inch their way closer to the top with their second straight victory. The Molson Export Game of the Week will be carried live on Rogers Sportsnet.

Two of the National Lacrosse League's hottest teams square off for the second time in as many weeks when the Buffalo Bandits welcome in the Toronto Rock to the HSBC Arena on Saturday night. The Bandits, whose only loss came at the hands of Toronto (17-13) on Jan 24, 2003, are out for revenge while Toronto looks to take over the League's top spot. The first face-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Buffalo and will be seen Adelphia Buffalo Channel 13.

After both playing games on the east coast on Thursday evening, both the Colorado Mammoth and New Jersey Storm fly west to Denver and the Pepsi Center for their first of two meetings this season in a crucial Eastern Division contest, pitting number one versus number two. The game, which can be heard live on the New Jersey Storm radio network, will kick off at 9 p.m.

Rounding out the weekend's action are the Rochester Knighthawks and Philadelphia Wings. Both the Wings and Knighthawks have gotten off to slow starts and are looking to get back to their dominant ways of the past. With both teams losing two or more games already this season, winning is becoming more and more crucial each week and is sure to be the only thing on the minds of both clubs. Opening face-off at the First Union Center is set for 8:00 p.m. with all the action be broadcast live on the Rochester radio network.
