The Calgary Roughnecks defeated the Columbus Landsharks, 11-7, at the Pengrowth Saddledome on Friday. Roughnecks captain Tracey Kelusky scored two goals to help Calgary to victory, but the story was about the Roughnecks defense, which held Columbus scoreless in the third quarter.
The game was defensive from the start, with each team only tallying one goal in the first quarter. However, Columbus took command in the second, outscoring the Roughnecks 4-2 and taking a 5-3 lead into the locker rooms.
Calgary came out on fire, scoring five goals in the third and holding the Landsharks scoreless. Their defense continued to play solid, as the Roughnecks held on for an 11-7 victory.
Dan Dawson led Columbus with three goals.
