The Columbus Landsharks (6-3) were impolite hosts on Valentine's Day jumping out to an early 5-0 lead and finishing with a 12-9 victory over the New Jersey Storm in National Lacrosse League action tonight at the Nationwide Arena.
The Storm, who suffered their sixth straight loss, fall to 2-7 and remain in third place in the NLL Eastern Division behind both Philadelphia and Colorado.
Headlining the Storm tonight were forwards Scott Stewart (3 goals) and Blake Miller (2 goals). Goaltender Derek General suffered the loss despite turning away 40 of 52 Columbus shots.
Columbus, who with the victory sweeps the season series, was led offensively by forward Gewas Schindler (2G, 2A) with a four-point performance. Landsharks net minder Mike Miron beat New Jersey for the second time this year, stopping 40 of 49 Storm shots.
The Storm wraps up their current three game road trip next Saturday afternoon when they travel to Philadelphia and the First Union Center for a 1:00 p.m. match up with the Wings. The Storm will be looking to stop their current losing skid and avenge a heartbreaking 16-15 home defeat to Philadelphia on February 6, 2003.
