The New Jersey Storm (3-10) dropped an 18-17 contest to
the Colorado Mammoth (6-7) this afternoon in front of 6,287 inside the Continental Airlines Arena.
With the victory, Colorado stays in the running for the Eastern Division Title. The Philadelphia Wings (8-6) lead the Mammoth by 1.5 games. A Philadelphia win or Colorado loss will eliminate the Mammoth from contention for the division title.
The Storm, which remains in third place in the Eastern Division behind Colorado were led in scoring by forward and game MVP Scott Stewart with seven points (4G, 3A). Forwards Marc Morley and Blake Miller also chipped in with hat tricks of their own.
Headlining the Mammoth offense was forward Gary Gait with seven points (6G, 1A). With the win, Colorado also notched its first road victory of the season after dropping its previous five chances.
Storm net minder Matt Roik suffered the loss in net allowing 13 goals while backup Derek General stopped 21 shots for New Jersey allowing only 5 goals. Goalie Tom Still made 34 saves to earn the victory for the Colorado.
The Storm returns to action on Saturday, April 5 when they travel to Buffalo and the HSBC Arena for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the Central Division leading Bandits.
