The National Lacrosse League announced that the League's 2004 All-Star Game will be played at Pepsi Center, hosted by the Colorado Mammoth.

Flanked by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Colorado Mammoth team captain Gary Gait, NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings announced a series of fan-friendly events in support of the game. The February 22 NLL All-Star Game will cap a weekend full of work in the community, fan fairs and clinics by the biggest stars in the National Lacrosse League.

"Colorado has welcomed professional lacrosse in record numbers and we're delighted to showcase the very best of our league here," said NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings. In their inaugural season, the Mammoth posted a home average attendance of more than 16,000 fans per game, including two sellout crowds in excess of 18,000.

"The National Lacrosse League joins other great sports in recognizing Denver as the best sports town in America," said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. "Denver loves its sports and on behalf of local sports fans, the Mile High City is thrilled to once again invite the best sportsmen in the world to Colorado." The NLL All-Star Game will be one of three played at Pepsi Center in five years. Pepsi Center hosted the 2001 NHL All-Star Game and is the site of the 2005 NBA All Star Weekend.

Gait, widely regarded as the best player in the sport's history, and one of only three players to play in every NLL All-Star Game, offered a sacred ceremonial lacrosse stick to Hickenlooper and an invitation to the players. "You won't find better fans than those in Colorado," Gait said. "We guarantee the most enthusiastic crowd in the league and, on behalf of the players, I'll tell you that we're all excited to be coming to Denver." Gait, Philadelphia Wings goaltender Dallas Eliuk and Toronto Rock forward Kevin Finneran are the only players to have played in all three of the league's All-Star Games.

Players will be selected by a combination of fan ballots, media votes and selection by coaches and general managers. The fan balloting will take place through the league website, nll.com. The teams will be divided between Eastern and Western Division squads. Individual ticket sales for the 2004 NLL All-Star Game will take place in early December. All Colorado Mammoth season ticket holders will be guaranteed All-Star Game tickets. More information on tickets, balloting and other details will be released in the coming weeks.
