Toronto Rock GM/Head Coach Les Bartley will not serve as the team's general manager and head coach during the 2003-2004 National Lacrosse League season.

On October 26, doctors discovered a malignant tumour while performing surgery on Bartley to remove a bowel obstruction.

Bartley, 48, underwent a successful second operation on November 3 to remove the tumour.

While Bartley recovers, Rock assistant coach Ed Comeau becomes interim head coach. Assistant coach Derek Keenan will serve as the club's interim general manager.

'Our concern is with Les and his family,' said Brad Watters. 'We're all hoping he makes a quick recovery.'

The Rock kindly request all to respect the privacy of the Bartley family at this time. Bartley's wife, Gloria; daughter, Laura; and son, Matt wish to thank in advance all for their concern, thoughts and prayers.

Bartley has coached the Toronto Rock to four Championships in his six seasons with the club, including the 2003 Champion's Cup last May.
