Stat Fact: Top 10 All Time Loose Ball Leaders

11/07/2003, 10:58am EST
By National Lacrosse League

The teams that pick up the most loose balls are ususally the teams that win games in the National Lacrosse League. A key pickup in front of the goal can stop the opposition on offense and begin a quick turnaround for a scoring chance. Toronto Rock defenseman Jim Veltman continues to set the standard in this category. With more than 1500 loose balls picked up in his career, "Scoop" is well ahead of the competition.

Toronto Rock forward Jim 'Scoop' Veltman is first in all-time career Loose Balls with 1,554 while Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares places second having amassed 1,279 to his credit. Rounding out the top five are Dallas Eliuk (982) of the Philadelphia Wings, Gary Gait (915) of the Colorado Mammoth and Paul Cantabene (794) of the Wings.
