The Toronto Rock have designated two of the game's top defensemen as their franchise players, choosing team captain Jim Veltman and Pat Coyle. Each club may declare up to two players as franchise players. The Rock designated Veltman and Coyle from a pool of six total players that were potential unrestricted free agents. The other four players, forwards Chris Driscoll and Kevin Finneran, defenseman Glenn Clark and goaltender Bob Watson are now Unrestricted Free Agents and have been removed from the Toronto roster. The four players are free to re-sign with the Rock or sign with any of the league's member clubs.
