With the regular season opening on January 3rd, teams are making their final preparations for the 2009 season as training camps are winding down. Stealth rookie Rhys Duch scored the game-winning goals in overtime. Duch, Tom Johnson and Jeff Zywicki each scored three goals for San Jose. Colin Doyle added a goal and eight assists. Brian Langtry and Jed Prossner each scored three goals for Colorado.
Other clubs are making final preparations for the season as well. Portland will begin its final weekend of training camp at the Rose Garden this weekend when it practices from 3-5 pm PT on Saturday, December 20th. Saturday's practice is for season ticket holders only. Doors to the arena will open at 12:30 p.m. and a day of lacrosse 101 turf talks with players and coaches will serve as the undercard before the Jax practice from 3-5 p.m. This is the final opportunity for players to shake out any rust before the season opener on Saturday, January 3rd when Portland hosts the Minnesota Swarm at 7:30 p.m. "Everyone will be here minus goalie Matt Disher," said Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan. "I expect Saturday to be a really good day with our first look at the home field."
The Calgary Roughnecks continue to hold weekend training camp sessions during December and the beginning of January in preparation for the 2009 season. All sessions are free and open to the public. The team will hold weekend training camp at Spray Lake Sawmill Family Sports Centre in Cochrane, AB. SAturday's session runs from 8-10pm and Sunday morning from 8-10am. This past weekend, Calgary defeated Edmonton 10-5 in an exhibition game located in Red Deer, Alberta. Calgary opens its season on January 9 at San Jose.
