The Calgary Roughnecks have officially selected their team captain and assistant captains for the 2011 season. Andrew McBride was promoted to Roughnecks Captain and fellow teammate Kaleb Toth remains an Assistant Captain joined by the newest addition, Mike Carnegie.

McBride is noted to be the leader of the Roughnecks strong defensive unit and a role model for the team on and off the floor. Now 26, McBride was originally selected by the Roughnecks in the 2002 NLL Entry Draft (second round, 14th overall) and will be going into his ninth season with the team. Playing in 15 games in 2010 McBride collected 66 loose balls and 5 points (5a).

McBride expresses how it felt to be named Captain of the Roughnecks, "It is a big honor for me and I am quite humbled by it. I am really excited about the opportunity to represent the Roughnecks not only on the floor but within the City of Calgary, as I know that is something the Roughnecks really pride themselves on."

A born and raised Calgarian, Toth will be celebrating his 10th season with the Roughnecks this year and continues his role as Assistant Captain. Toth has won three Champion Cups, one with Toronto and two with Roughnecks. McBride and Toth were able to experience both Championships together, and all three leaders celebrated together in 2009. Last season Toth suffered a knee injury and was only able to play in 10 games but still garnered 35 points (13g, 22a) and 29 loose balls.

Carnegie will be stepping up into the Assistant Captain role for the first time in his pro career and is honored with the title. "It feels really rewarding to be given this title. I didn't expect to get it this year, but with the changes made, plus with my work ethic an opportunity arose. I am extremely happy, but it is going to be a challenge as there are big shoes to fill with Tracey and Josh gone, so hopefully I can take some of the stuff I learned from them and use my own knowledge to step into this leadership role."

Originally from London, Ontario, Carnegie now lives in Calgary with his wife Hailey and works for Stantec Geomatics as a survey analyst. Carnegie signed with the Roughnecks in 2008 as a free agent, and plays alongside his younger brother Scott Carnegie who was also signed with the team in 2008 as a free agent. In 16 games last year Carnegie notched 8 points (2g, 6a) and 68 loose balls.

The Calgary Roughnecks kick off their 10th Anniversary season on January 8th at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Buffalo Bandits.
