Calgary Roughnecks General Manager Mike Board has announced that the National Lacrosse League club has signed all five of their picks from the 2011 NLL Entry Draft to one-year contracts.
"Our plan continues to be placing a top team on the floor now and in the future. Getting our young 2011 draft picks signed and into the Roughnecks family is important for our development," said Board. "We expect all five to come to camp ready to challenge for positions on our team."
The 'Necks top selection in the 2011 Entry Draft was transition specialist Travis Cornwall, whom they drafted with the 7th overall selection. Board believes Cornwall will help keep the 'Necks transition game strong for many years to come.
"Travis Cornwall is a terrific athlete with a lot of heart and determination. He is a versatile player. He can play defense, transition and offense having scored more than 100 points in junior lacrosse last season."
Calgary drafted a pair of players in the second round in transition player Greg Harnett and goaltender Frankie Scigliano. Later in the draft, the Roughnecks selected a couple of provincial talents in Barclay Hickey (Oktoks, AB) and Darren Kinnear of Edmonton. Both are transition players.
