Rhys Duch, Matt Roik, Paul Rabil and Johnny Powless have won the NLL’s weekly player awards for Week 5.
Duch was voted the Offensive Player of the Week, after notching four goals and with four assists - including the game-winning tally in overtime - to lift the Washington Stealth to an 11-10 win over the Buffalo Bandits last Saturday.
Toronto goaltender Matt Roik was named the Defensive Player of the Week. He didn’t allow a goal for the final 31:56 and finished with 38 saves in the Rock’s 15-6 win over the Philadelphia Wings last Saturday.
Rabil earned the Transition Player of the Week award after he collected six loose balls to go with a goal and two assists in Washington’s overtime win against Buffalo. The Stealth will try to make it back-to-back wins Friday night at home against the Calgary Roughnecks.
Powless, the fifth overall selection in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft, picked up the Rookie of the Week award. He scored twice, had two assists and corralled three loose balls to lift the Rochester Knighthawks to a 16-14 win over the Minnesota Swarm last Saturday.
Duch, Roik, Rabil and Powless have all been selected to the play in the NLL ALL-Star game on Feb. 25 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo.
The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
