On Friday, Calgary became the first team to pin a loss on Colorado in 2012.
That also resulted in the Roughnecks taking over the top spot in ILIndoor.com’s power rankings for Week 8.
Playing at Denver’s Pepsi Center, Calgary jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one quarter and 11-1 at halftime en route to a 21-10 rout of the Mammoth. Darryl Veltman led the way with three goals and six assists, and All-Star MVP Geoff Snider scored twice, drew an assist, collected 19 loose balls and won 27 of 31 face-offs.
League scoring leader John Grant Jr. finished with four goals and three assists – all in the second half for Colorado, which slid down to No. 2, and had its lead in the West Division reduced to one-half game.
Colorado will travel to face Buffalo while Calgary plays host to Minnesota this Saturday night.
The remainder of the league’s rankings was unchanged from last week, including East co-leaders Philadelphia and Toronto holding the third and fourth spots, respectively.
Following its loss in Edmonton on Friday, Philadelphia heads home to face Rochester on Saturday. Toronto, meanwhile, takes on Washington at the Air Canada Centre in a rematch of last season's NLL championship game – an 8-7 Rock victory in Hall of Famer Bob Watson’s final appearance.
