This week's Fantasy Spotlight will have former teammates opposing each other when Edmonton's Aaron Bold goes up against Rochester's Matt Vinc.
Last week’s Fantasy Spotlight pitted two of the NLL’s all-time greats against one another as John Grant Jr. took on John Tavares. Here are their stats:
Grant (at Buffalo): four goals, five assists, and five loose balls for 31 fantasy points
Tavares (vs. Colorado): one goal, four assists, and three loose balls for 15 fantasy points
Grant continues his dominance this season with yet another amazing fantasy performance. He more than doubled Tavares’ total and emerges with his second Fantasy Spotlight victory in two appearances this year. Not too surprising as Grant leads the entire fantasy challenge with 230 fantasy points (29 points per game).
The Week 10 spotlight will match up former teammates when Matt Vinc ($20) of the Rochester Knighthawks will take on Aaron Bold ($18) of the Edmonton Rush.
Bold played two seasons in Rochester as a backup, but was traded to the Rush during the offseason as part of a deal which sent defenseman Ryan Cousins to Rochester. Since earning the starting job in Edmonton, Bold has played very well and was named to represent the West Division at last month’s All-Star game.
Vinc has been on fire lately, however, and has been one of the top scorers in the fantasy challenge for the last few years.
Who do you think will have the better game this weekend? Vote in the poll on the right to share your thoughts.
Aaron Bold (Edmonton $18) – Bold has been quietly putting together a fantastic fantasy year with the Rush during his first season as a starting goaltender. He averages 21 fantasy points per game, which is well above his current price point. This makes him one of the most valuable players to have on your fantasy team.
Kevin Croswell (Washington $12) – Washington’s starting goaltender, Tyler Richards, has missed two games due to injury so the Stealth signed Croswell last week. Croswell was released by the Rush earlier this year, but perhaps that was a mistake as he had 41 saves in Saturday’s win against Toronto. He also only allowed nine goals which made for a huge fantasy performance (25 points). Croswell could be a good sleeper pick this week. Since the Stealth play back-to-back games against Colorado, it’s safe to say Croswell should start at least one of them even if T-Rich does return to the lineup.
Matt Vinc (Rochester $20) – Vinc got off to a shaky start this season, but has since returned to his old self. He has made 138 saves and posted a .799 save percentage in the Knighthawks’ last three games. That’s 46 saves a game! No wonder he leads the league in saves with 329. Facing this many shots each game has translated into huge numbers for fantasy owners. Vinc is a little pricier than most, but can be worth it for the sheer number of saves he makes.
Matt Roik (Toronto $15) – After a decent start to the season, Roik has had three down performances in a row, totaling just six fantasy points in that stretch. To make matters worse, he was pulled for Pat Campbell last weekend, and Campbell had a good stint by stopping 22 of 26 shots faced. It would not be too surprising to see Campbell get the start this weekend or in the near future if Roik’s struggles continue.
Anthony Cosmo (Buffalo $17) – Cosmo made his season debut with the Bandits last weekend, and it did not go as well as some fans expected of the elite goaltender. Cosmo allowed 15 goals on 46 shots faced which led to just two fantasy points for him. Some of his early struggles could be credited to poor defense and some to rust, but this is not encouraging for fantasy owners. Mike Thompson replaced Cosmo in the fourth quarter of last Saturday’s loss to Colorado, and Thompson did not allow a goal in nearly 10 minutes of play except for an empty-netter. It will be interesting to see who starts in net for Buffalo this weekend. That being said, it might also be a good idea for fantasy owners to avoid Thompson for awhile as well.
