Colorado’s duo of John Grant Jr. and Adam Jones, Toronto’s Nick Rose and Philadelphia’s Brodie Merrill are the latest NLL Players of the Week.
Grant was selected as Offensive Player of the Week for Week 12 with two high-scoring efforts after missing two games with an injury.
Grant scored six goals with one assist Friday in a 13-12 home loss to Philadelphia. He then tallied three goals – including one to tie the game in the final minute of regulation – with nine assists for a season-high 12 points in Sunday’s 16-15 overtime win against the Wings. Grant also collected 11 loose balls in the home-and-home series.
Honored with weekly award the fourth time this season, Grant leads the NLL with 40 goals and 87 points in 10 games.
Jones picked up Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks and third time overall. He notched four goals, including the game-winner 9:38 into overtime, and five assists in Colorado’s win on Sunday.
The third overall pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft scored two goals with an assist in Friday’s one-goal home loss to the Wings. Jones corralled 12 loose balls in the weekend set.
Rose earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after a solid debut between the pipes for Toronto. Days after being acquired in a trade with Calgary, Rose held the Knighthawks scoreless for almost 30 minutes at one point and finished with 28 saves on 35 shots in the 13-7 win.
That snapped the Rock’s three-game losing streak.
Merrill was named Transition Player of the Week for the third time in 2012. He scored twice, assisted on two other goals and collected 11 loose balls in the Wings’ overtime loss to Colorado on Sunday.
Two nights earlier, he drew an assist and scooped up eight loose balls during Philadelphia’s win in Denver.
The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
