The National Lacrosse League has announced that Rochester Knighthawks forward Johnny Powless has won the Sportsmanship Award for the 2012 season.
Selected fifth overall from Six Nations, Ontario, in last September’s Entry Draft, Powless played in all 16 of the Knighthawks regular season games. He was fourth on the team in scoring with 50 points (26 goals, 24 assists) and totaled just 10 penalty minutes for the season.
“Johnny is a really great kid who comes to the rink to learn as much as he can”, said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. “He respects his teammates, respects the opposition and then goes on the floor and performs what you ask of him.”
Defenseman Dan MacRae of Calgary was runner-up and forward Sean Pollock of Colorado finished third.
The announcements of 2012 NLL Season Awards continues Tuesday with the General Manager of the Year Award. The awards are voted on by the league's board of governors, general managers and head coaches.
