Selection camp will determine which two players play with the pros at Bell Centre

Selection camp on Nov. 17 will determine which two Quebec players play with the pros at Bell Centre on Dec. 15.

The National Lacrosse League has announced that two local players will play in the exhibition game between the Rochester Knighthawks and Toronto Rock on Saturday, December 15 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. The two Quebec players will dress and play in the game, one with the Knighthawks and the other with the Rock.

A selection camp will be held on Saturday, November 17 at Le Club West Island in Beaconsfield, Quebec to determine which two players will take the field with the pros. The tryout will be under the direction of former NLL head coach Jamie Batley.

“This will give players in that region a pretty unique opportunity,” said Rock general manager Terry Sanderson. “We are all working together to grow our sport and the league. There is a fan base there, and some talented players. I’m looking forward to seeing what type of talent emerges from this camp.”

“Selecting a kid to participate in a game between rivals like us and Toronto is a great chance to showcase our organizations and provide the experience needed to play at this level,” said Knighthawks assistant general manager Landon Miller. "We will always be an organization that steps up to promote the game anywhere. It's not only an organizational mandate. It has cultural importance for myself and [Knighthawks owner] Curt Styres."

Pierre Filion, the Quebec federation's technical director, commented on the significance of the tryout and exhibition for Quebec lacrosse players.

''This is a great opportunity for our players to be seen and evaluated by pro coaches," Filion said. "We have good players and we will endeavor to showcase them to the pros."

Interested athletes must be 18 years old and over, must be members of the Quebec Lacrosse Federation or Quebec residents, and must register for the selection camp by November 15.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. exhibition in Montreal between the Knighthawks and Rock on December 15 can be purchased online here.
