Stan Kroenke, owner of the National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth, was recently named "The Most Powerful Man in Sports" in the November 19th issue of Sports Illustrated. In an article by SI writer L. Jon Wertheim, the writer states that Kroenke has "more skin in the sports game -- more asserts invested, more holdings, more major franchises -- than anyone else on the planet". In addition to the Mammoth, Kroenke owns the NFL Rams, NBA Nuggets, NHL Avalanche, EPL club Arsenal, the Pepsi Center, the MLS Rapids and their stadium and the Altitude Sports & Entertainment regional sports network.

The Missouri native is hailed for running his sports franchises as self-sustaining businesses, while being a passionate sports fan who has never sold any of the sports franchises he has purchased.  Wertheim writes that Kroenke bought these teams "for the sheer love of the games -- and because they pay off".

Kroenke purchased the Mammoth franchise in 2002 and the team made its debut at Pepsi Center during the NLL's 2003 season.  The franchise has been at or near the top of the league in attendance in every season since.

The full story can be read in the November 19 issue of Sports Illustrated.
