The Calgary Roughnecks have re-signed forwards Curtis Dickson, Dane Dobbie and Daryl Veltman to one-year contracts for the 2013 National Lacrosse League season.
“Curtis, Daryl and Dane all play major roles in our offensive unit. Together they accounted for about one-third of our scoring last season,” said Roughnecks general manager Mike Board. “Having continuity year-to-year in the offense is important, so keeping these three players in the fold is very positive for our team. It means the bulk of our offense, which scored the second-most goals in the league last season, is returning for another run at the Champion’s Cup.”
Dickson, a native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, recorded 56 points (31+25) in 16 games last season. The 2011 NLL Rookie of the Year has amassed 108 points (64+44) in his two years in Calgary and scored a hat trick in six consecutive games last season.
Dobbie, an Elora, Ontario native, finished the 2012 regular season with 50 points (28+22) in 13 games. In five seasons in the NLL, Dobbie has recorded 288 points (143+145) in 65 games with Calgary, with career highs in assists (42) and points (80) in 2010. Dobbie won his first Champion’s Cup with the Roughnecks in 2009.
Veltman tallied 62 points (20+42) in 16 games last season. The Georgetown, Ontario product recorded a season-high nine points (3+6) in Calgary’s 21-10 victory over the Colorado Mammoth last February. Over two seasons with the Roughnecks, Veltman has registered 104 points (33+ 71) in 30 games played.
The trio of signings ensures that the top six point producers from the 2012 Calgary squad return for the upcoming season, as Jeff Shattler, Shawn Evans and Scott Ranger are also under contract.
The Roughnecks have also signed five 2012 NLL Entry Draft picks to one-year agreements. The team signed both first-round draft picks in forward Joe Resetarits (6th overall) and transition Matthew Dinsdale (7th overall), in addition to fifth-round defenseman Kyle Dexter (45th overall), two sixth-rounders in Curtis Pridham (50th overall) and Myles Dennett (54th overall).
In addition, Calgary announced that two 2011 draft picks, transition players Barclay Hickey and Darren Kinnear, have re-signed one-year contracts.
The Roughnecks open the 2013 regular season at home on Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host the Toronto Rock at 7 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome.
