Calgary signs 10 players to one-year deals

The Calgary Roughnecks have re-signed Mike Carnegie, Scott Carnegie, Jon Harnett, Curtis Manning, Peter McFetridge and Kaleb Toth to one-year contracts for the 2013 National Lacrosse League season. The team has also agreed to terms with 2012 second-round draft pick Jackson Decker and free agents Matt Lyons, Andrew Murphy and Aaron Tackaberry.

Toth is entering his 12th season with the Roughnecks as the franchise's all-time leader in games played (160), goals (274), assists (354), points (628) and loose balls (568). In 16 postseason games with the team, the Calgary native has recorded 56 points (22+34) with Champion’s Cup wins in 2004 and 2009. Toth registered eight points (3+5) in seven games last year.

Mike Carnegie, a London, Ont. native, finished the 2012 regular season with nine points (3+6) along with 64 loose balls in 16 games.  In five seasons with the Roughnecks, the Calgary resident has recorded 36 points, including 13 goals, while scooping up 349 loose balls over 79 games. Mike and his younger brother Scott both won their first Champion’s Cup with Calgary in 2009.

Scott Carnegie tallied eight assists and collected 69 loose balls in 16 games last season. Over five seasons with the team, Scott has registered 28 points (4+24) along with 244 loose balls in 63 games played.

Harnett enters his fourth season in the league. The Orangeville, Ont. product had five points (1+4) in 11 games during his first season with the Roughnecks last year.

Manning, a native of New Westminster, Ont., just completed his third NLL season, setting career highs in goals (5), assists (9), points (14) and loose balls (84) in 14 games. The 25-year-old has played his entire career with the Roughnecks, recording 24 points (11+13) and 162 loose balls in 32 games played.

McFetridge made his NLL debut with Calgary in 2008 and captured his first Champion’s Cup as a member of the Roughnecks the following season.  He recorded 16 points (9+7) and 48 penalty minutes in 16 games last season. The Vancouver, B.C. product has registered 46 points (19+17) and 104 penalty minutes in 45 games over his five-year career.

Decker was selected by the Roughnecks in the second round (17th overall) of the 2012 NLL Entry Draft. The rookie from Port Moody, B.C. played at D-II powerhouse Limestone College.

The Roughnecks opened their 2012 training camp on Saturday, Dec. 1 in Airdrie, Alta. The four-weekend training camp runs through Dec. 22 and includes an exhibition game against the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday, Dec. 8 (7 p.m., Langley Events Centre) in Langley, B.C. as well as an 11 a.m. scrimmage against the Edmonton Rush on Sunday, Dec. 16 at Genesis Place in Airdrie.
