The Edmonton Rush defeated the Calgary Roughnecks by a score of 14-10 in a controlled National Lacrosse League preseason scrimmage at Genesis Place in Airdrie, Alberta on Sunday.
The Roughnecks jumped to an early 1-0 lead against their provincial rivals on a goal by 2011 NLL Entry Draft pick Darren Kinnear. The Rush answered with five straight goals before Joe Resetarits, Calgary’s first-round pick (6th overall) in the 2012 Entry Draft, added a tally to make it 5-2 at the half.
Resetarits finished the scrimmage with four points (3+1) while Jeff Shattler netted two points (1+1). Jackson Decker scored twice for Calgary while Andrew Murphy, Curtis Dickson, Daryl Veltman each scored once in the losing effort.
Roughnecks goaltender Frank Scigliano played the first quarter and recorded 15 saves. Matt Flindell turned aside eight shots for Calgary in the second quarter, while Mike Poulin finished the contest with 23 second-half saves.
Calgary did not dress some of their best players including Dane Dobbie, Shawn Evans, Andrew McBride, Curtis Manning, Geoff Snider and Kaleb Toth.
Both teams have until 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20 to trim their active rosters down to 23 players in addition to a three-man practice squad.
