The Buffalo Bandits defeated the Philadelphia Wings by a score of 16-10 in their preseason scrimmage at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, Ont. on Friday night.

“It was good to get the guys used to the systems we’ll be using,” Bandits head coach Darris Kilgour told the team's website. “Overall I thought the defense was terrific and I thought the power play did a good job. I thought the game gave us a good look at everybody.”

Wings forward Kevin Crowley opened the scoring for Philadelphia's only lead of the night. Buffalo led 3-2 after the first quarter and took a 6-4 lead into halftime with two first-half goals by 2012 first-round draft pick Dhane Smith.

“I was nervous at first. But it all came eventually,” Smith said. “After I got the first one, it was all sailing from there. The guys got me my touches. I learned from my mistakes and the guys helped me out a lot.”

The rookie transition player completed his hat trick in the third quarter as the Bandits led 11-8 entering the fourth while Chad Culp scored both of his goals for Buffalo in the second half.

After the end of regulation, both teams decided to play a fifth quarter for added conditioning work. The Bandits outscored the Wings 4-2 during the extra 15 minutes of play.

"That was a very athletic team that we played,” Kilgour said. “We outran them at certain times. I was very happy with the athleticism.”

Both teams were playing their first preseason game, the only exhibition scheduled for the Bandits, and the first of two preseason games on consecutive nights for the Wings, who face the Toronto Rock at 7 p.m. at TRAC on Saturday night.

Saturday's 7 p.m. scrimmage between Philadelphia and Toronto is open to the public with free admission. Seating is extremely limited at TRAC with only the first 750 spectators being admitted.
