The Toronto Rock announced the retirement of Dan Carey, an eight-year NLL veteran who will now focus on coaching. The three-time All-Star forward recorded career-highs in goals and points with 76 points (32+44) for the Colorado Mammoth in 2007. Carey's retirement was covered by his hometown paper, the Peterborough Examiner, in a recent article by Mike Davies.

"The 30-year-old Peterborough native was hoping to come back from a concussion which sidelined him for the end of the 2012 season," Davies wrote. "Despite suffering several concussions during his career, Carey felt good heading to training camp after working out all summer and fall to prepare. After his physical, he got some difficult news."

“I'm going to miss being part of a team, that's one of the biggest things, and you get to play the game you love," Carey told Davies. "Not being involved is going to be tough. I still love the game of lacrosse, I'll just have to enjoy it as a fan. I've had a lot of great memories of playing with great players and great friends."
