Rochester's Cody Jamieson goes up against Washington's Rhys Duch

Week One of the Fantasy Spotlight highlights two of the top fantasy scorers from 2012 in Cody Jamieson from the Rochester Knighthawks and the Washington Stealth's Rhys Duch.

The Fantasy Spotlight is a weekly column which matches up two similar National Lacrosse League players against one another and then compares their fantasy performance for the week. Click here to see a recap of the 2012 Fantasy Spotlight matchups and winners.

The 2013 Week One Spotlight pits two of the best players from last season against one another as Cody Jamieson from the Rochester Knighthawks will take on Rhys Duch from the Washington Stealth. This is also an on-field matchup since Washington hosts Rochester on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Comcast Arena in Everett.

Cody Jamieson was the top fantasy scorer on Rochester last season. Jamieson had 85 points (36+49) and 56 loose balls across 15 games played for a total of 298 total fantasy points in 2012. Like Duch, Jamieson came out of the gate swinging last season with one of his best fantasy showings in the very first game – nine points (4+5) and two loose balls against Philadelphia.

Jamieson has played Washington just once in his career. He had four points (2+2) and two loose balls in the game back in 2011, a fantasy decent showing, but nothing too spectacular considering his cost.

The 2012 NLL Championship Game MVP, Jamieson is definitely ready for the new season and looks to be in the best shape of his career. He also has a lot of elite talent surrounding him now. With Casey Powell and Dan Dawson joining the Knighthawks offense, this might give opposing defenses other players to worry about and result in an increase in Jamieson’s fantasy production.

Priced at $24, Duch was one of the top five fantasy scorers for runners last year. He had 79 points (33+46) and 84 loose balls for a total of 308 fantasy points in just 14 games played. His first game of the season in 2012 was one of his best as he scored six points (4+2) and added eight loose balls against Calgary. Calgary ended up having the fewest goals against at the end of the season, which makes Duch’s performance seem more impressive. When Washington played Rochester last season, Duch had an excellent fantasy performance with a four-goal game.

Throughout his career, Duch has faced the Knighthawks four times and has accrued a total of 24 points (13+11) and 10 loose balls against them. Hypothetically speaking, this would be worth 84 fantasy points. Spread across the four games, that would average out to 21 fantasy points per game for Duch when he faces the Knighthawks.
