NLL Fantasy Spotlight: Week #2

Colorado's Adam Jones takes on Philadelphia's Kevin Crowley

Last week’s Fantasy Spotlight featured top scorers Cody Jamieson from the Rochester Knighthawks and Rhys Duch from the Washington Stealth. Their matchup in real life was pretty tight (the Stealth squeaked out a 13-12 win) but from a fantasy perspective, it was anything but close. Here are their stats from Week One:

Cody Jamieson: five points (1+4) and one loose ball for 13 fantasy points.

Rhys Duch: six points (3+3) and five loose balls for 23 fantasy points.

Overall, it was a disappointing fantasy performance from Jamieson, who only managed to beat Stealth goaltender Tyler Richards once. “Jammer” had 36 goals last season, so fantasy owners expect him to be putting up better numbers. Rochester’s offense has gotten a major face lift from last year with Dan Dawson and Casey Powell joining the lineup, so Cody’s role may have changed.

On the other hand, Duch once again opened the season with a hat trick. This is pretty much a regular occurrence for him considering he had four goals in the first game last season and a hat trick in the first game of 2011. Duch comes out on top of this matchup and is our first Fantasy Spotlight winner of the season.

This week’s matchup pits two of the top rookies from last year against one other. Adam Jones from the Colorado Mammoth will go up against Kevin Crowley of the Philadelphia Wings. Adam Jones was named the 2012 NLL Rookie of the Year last season but Kevin Crowley was a close runner-up. Both players are currently priced at $22 and had very similar fantasy production last year (Jones put up 287 fantasy points while Crowley actually had slightly more with 295).

Although both teams will be playing at home, Jones seems to have a more favorable matchup this week as Colorado takes on the Washington Stealth. In two games last season against the Stealth, Jones had 11 points (3+8) and 8 loose balls for 36 fantasy points, an average of 18 fantasy points per game.

Crowley and the Wings will be facing the Buffalo Bandits. The Bandits were one team Crowley didn’t have as much luck against as he only put up eight points (5+3) and 14 loose balls in three games against them last year, an average of 13 fantasy points per game. In fact, the last time Crowley faced Buffalo, he scored just one goal as Philly lost 17-7.
