Mammoth's Gavin Prout vs. Rock's Stephan Leblanc

Colorado Mammoth's Gavin Prout and Toronto Rock's Stephan Leblanc are featured in Week #3 of the NLL Fantasy Spotlight.

The 2013 National Lacrosse League Fantasy Spotlight for Week #2 saw two of last season’s top rookies, Colorado Mammoth forward Adam Jones and Philadelphia Wings forward Kevin Crowley, go head-to-head against one another last week.

It was a close matchup that historically favored Jones, who had averaged more fantasy points per game (18) against Washington compared to Crowley (13.3) against Buffalo. Strangely enough, Jones once again scored his exact average against the Stealth with 18 fantasy points. This time, however, it wouldn’t be enough to outdo Crowley.

Here are their stats from Week #2:

Adam Jones: five points (2+3) and four loose balls for 18 fantasy points.

Kevin Crowley: five points (4+1) and five loose balls for 23 fantasy points.

Both Jones and Crowley had a solid performance in their season opener, each putting up five points. Crowley ended up coming out on top fantasy-wise because goals are worth four fantasy points while assists are only worth two. This resulted in Crowley scoring more than Jones in fantasy even though both players had the same number of total points.

In week #3, the spotlight shines on Gavin Prout of the Colorado Mammoth and Stephan Leblanc from the Toronto Rock.

Stephan Leblanc was named the NLL’s Rookie of the Year when he came into the league in 2010. Leblanc has put up good numbers every season as part of a high-powered offense that includes fellow stars such as Garrett Billings, Colin Doyle, Blaine Manning, and Josh Sanderson. Although his numbers saw a little bit of a decline in 2012, a “down year” for him still meant scoring 28 goals and adding 37 assists.

Prout and Leblanc had very similar fantasy stats last season with Prout scoring 259 fantasy points and Leblanc putting up 251. They also have similar costs as Prout comes with a $20 price tag and Leblanc requires a $21 investment.

So far this season, Leblanc has scored slightly more fantasy points (27 compared to Prout’s 21), but Toronto has also played two games while Colorado has seen action just once. This means that even though Leblanc has more total points, Prout actually averages more fantasy points per game.

After spending some time in Edmonton, Gavin Prout wound up back in Colorado at the end of 2011. His fantasy value immediately skyrocketed as this is where Prout has seen the most success in his NLL career. He was voted team captain of the Mammoth last season and finished the year fifth in overall league scoring with 83 points (22+61).

Gavin Prout and the Colorado Mammoth will visit the Calgary Roughnecks this weekend while Stephan Leblanc and the Toronto Rock host the Philadelphia Wings. Who do you think will have the better fantasy showing? Cast your vote in the poll on the right to share your opinion.
