Snider brothers face off in this week's spotlight

The 2013 NLL Fantasy Spotlight for Week #4 featured Callum Crawford from the Minnesota Swarm and Mark Matthews of the Edmonton Rush. Since Crawford played in two games last weekend, we’ll take his better performance to compare to Matthews in the Spotlight.

Mark Matthews: five points (1 + 4) and one loose ball for 13 fantasy points.

Callum Crawford (versus Toronto): four points (2 + 2) and five loose balls for 17 fantasy points.

It ultimately didn’t matter which of Crawford’s two games were put in the Spotlight, he outscored Matthews in both of them (Crawford had 16 fantasy points in his other game). Although Matthews had more actual points, Crawford still had a better fantasy performance thanks to the loose balls category. This goes to show that this stat category should not be overlooked. Like in last week’s Spotlight, it could be what puts you over the top.

The Week #5 Spotlight pits two brothers against one another as Bob Snider of the Washington Stealth will take on Geoff Snider of the Calgary Roughnecks. The Sniders are faceoff specialists which means most of their fantasy value is derived from scooping up loose balls.

Bob currently leads the league with 67 LBs in five games. He played defense last season but has been moved to transition this year. The change has helped him a little bit offensively as he has already tripled his goal output from last year.

His brother Geoff comes with a much higher price tag but is one of the top options in fantasy. Geoff is currently ranked fifth among all players in fantasy scoring (Bob is ranked seventh). Geoff is second in the NLL with 56 loose balls but has played only four games compare to Bob’s five. Geoff also contributes more offensively than his brother does as Geoff had 24 points (11 + 13) last season and already has 11 points (7 + 4) this year.

The Snider brothers should both have a field day this weekend against the two worst teams in the league in faceoff percentage when Washington visits Rochester (37.6%) and Calgary plays at Edmonton (35.8%).

Which brother do you think will have the better game? Vote in the poll on the right.
