IL Indoor.com's Brian Shanahan has released his NLL Power Rankings after Week #5 of the 2013 National Lacrosse League regular season. The defending champion Rochester Knighthawks flew up two spots by earning their first win of the year with a 7-6 victory over the Washington Stealth while the Edmonton Rush continued their fall despite a strong effort in their 18-15 loss to the Calgary Roughnecks this past weekend.
7) Rochester Knighthawks (1-3) (+2)
"At this point, Rochester doesn’t care how they win – as long as they get a win but with all the talent in Rochester they have to be concerned about their lack of offensive production. Although they are near the top of the league defensively, their goals per game is worst in the NLL. Cody Jamieson, their top scorer, is on pace for 68 points."
9) Edmonton Rush (1-3) (-2)
"Despite outshooting the Roughnecks 60-41, the Rush lost to Calgary for the ninth-consecutive regular season game. In fact, Edmonton outshot Calgary 31-15 in the second half but were outscored 8-5 including two empty net goals. Calgary was 3-for-3 on the power play while Edmonton was 1-for-7 on the PP. Coming into the game, Edmonton’s power play was tops in the NLL at 70% but dropped down to a third-best 57%."
