Rochester's goalies take on Buffalo's Williams

Rochester Knighthawks goalies take on Buffalo Bandits forward Shawn Williams in Week #6 of the NLL Fantasy Spotlight.

It was brother against brother in last week’s NLL Fantasy Spotlight as Bob Snider of the Washington Stealth figuratively faced off against Geoff Snider from the Calgary Roughnecks. Here are their stats from Week #5:

Bob Snider: eight loose balls for eight fantasy points.

Geoff Snider: three goals and 22 loose balls for 34 fantasy points.

The older brother Geoff came out of this matchup victorious with his best fantasy showing of the season to date. Bob ended up being the victim of what turned out to be a 7-6 defensive showdown between the Stealth and Rochester Knighthawks. With just 13 goals scored between the two teams, there weren’t very many faceoffs (Bob only took 16 draws) which affected his fantasy performance.

It was a whole different story for Geoff, who took 36 draws in Calgary’s 18-15 win against the Edmonton Rush. Snider’s 22 loose balls alone would have been enough to earn him the victory in the Fantasy Spotlight but Geoff added three goals for a decisive win. Geoff was named game MVP for his efforts and has now maxed out his fantasy value at $25.

The Fantasy Spotlight for Week #6 changes things up by featuring players at two very different positions as Buffalo Bandits forward Shawn Williams will go up against Rochester’s goalie tandem of Matt Vinc and Angus Goodleaf.

Rochester and Buffalo have one of the biggest rivalries in the National Lacrosse League and will be playing each other for the second time this season so it seemed only fitting to pit their two top fantasy scorers against one another in this week’s Spotlight.

Williams is currently Buffalo’s leading fantasy scorer with 81 points. After having a somewhat disappointing fantasy year as a member of the Rush in 2012, Williams has bounced back into fantasy relevance with 26 points (5+21) in five games this season. If he can continue at his current pace, Williams will break 80 points for the first time since 2009.

Williams had his best game of the season against Rochester back in Week #3 with eight points (2+6) and one loose ball for 21 fantasy points and could match that performance this weekend.

Standing in his way will be Knighthawks goaltender Matt Vinc. Vinc has played every second so far this season which makes Rochester the only team in the league with a goalie that hasn’t yielded time to the backup. This really speaks to Matt Vinc’s abilities and it comes as no surprise to see Rochester’s goalies leading the Knighthawks in overall fantasy scoring. Vinc is also coming off his best game of the season with 32 fantasy points last week against Washington.

Although the numbers seem to favor Vinc in this Spotlight matchup, he has struggled against the Bandits and has a 2-5 record against them since joining the Knighthawks in 2011.

Who do you think will have the better fantasy game this week? Will Shawn Williams repeat his Week #3 success against the Knighthawks or will Rochester’s goalies shut him and the rest of the Buffalo’s offense down? Cast your vote in the poll on the right.
