Player discipline summary: Week #5

Toronto's Edwards suspended, White continues appeal

The National Lacrosse League has announced a summary of discipline stemming from incidents occurring during Week #5 of the regular season for games played on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Toronto Rock defenseman Damon Edwards has been suspended one game stemming from a high-sticking incident on Buffalo's Mark Steenhuis at the 4:32 mark of the fourth quarter of the Buffalo vs. Toronto game this past Saturday. A High-Sticking Major Penalty and Match Penalty were called on the field and upon league review of the incident, the Match Penalty is upheld for violation of High Sticking (Rule 62.2) and carries an automatic one-game suspension.

Colorado Mammoth goaltender Matt Roik was assessed a Game Misconduct Penalty, stemming from the use of an unapproved glove, at the 8:31 mark of the fourth quarter during their game against Minnesota. An Illegal Equipment Minor Penalty and Game Misconduct Penalty were called on the field, and upon league review of the incident, the Game Misconduct Penalty is upheld for violation of Approved Equipment (Rule 35.2).

In other league discipline news, Toronto Rock defenseman Chris White has continued his appeal after being suspended one game for an illegal cross check on Rochester's Casey Powell in the first quarter of their game on Saturday, Jan. 26. White, who was assessed a Match Penalty for violation of Illegal Cross Checking (Rule 63.3), has a hearing scheduled for next week. He is eligible to play in Minnesota on Friday.
