WSH/ROC goalie tandems go head-to-head

Washington Stealth goaltenders go up against Rochester Knighthawks goalies in the NLL Fantasy Spotlight for Week #7.

Last week’s Fantasy Spotlight was a cross-positional battle featuring Buffalo Bandits forward Shawn Williams against Rochester Knighthawks goaltenders Matt Vinc and Angus Goodleaf. It looked like this would be a close matchup on paper but the Rochester goalies ended up scoring the second-most fantasy points out of any player last weekend, let alone enough to handily beat Shawn Williams. Here are their stats from Week #6:

Shawn Williams – five loose balls for five fantasy points.

Rochester goalies – 54 saves, seven goals allowed, and one loose ball for 41 fantasy points.

Williams had a disappointing game last weekend with no points, but considering the Bandits only scored seven goals, he can’t really be blamed for the loss. With over 100 combined saves in Rochester’s two-game weekend,Vinc was simply on fire. Even backup Angus Goodleaf got in some action. Goodleaf played the final few minutes of the game against the Bandits and did not allow a goal with six saves.

Vinc was not the only goaltender to have a ridiculously good showing last weekend so the Week #7 Fantasy Spotlight will throw him right back into the fray as the Rochester goalies will now take on Washington Stealth goaltenders Tyler Richards and Nick Patterson.

Richards undoubtedly had his best game of the season last weekend. The fact it was against the high-powered Colorado Mammoth offense makes it all the more impressive. How many goalies can say they held John Grant, Jr. without a goal? Richards turned aside 51 of a whopping 57 shots on goal.

As a result of the solid play of “T-Rich”, the Washington goaltenders scored 42 fantasy points last weekend. This stunning performance was enough to even outscore Rochester’s goalies. Washington will be facing the Edmonton Rush this weekend, which is good news for Richards, as he was named game MVP last time he played Edmonton back in Week #4.

The Knighthawks play the Bandits again on Saturday. With John Tavares recently being moved to the injured reserve list, he will not play in Rochester. This is a significant blow to the Bandits’ offensive capabilities. Can Matt Vinc continue his hot streak and stymie the Bandits yet again?
