NLL Fantasy Spotlight: Week #10

Rhys Duch and Kevin Crowley begin Winner's Tournament

Washington Stealth forward Rhys Duch and Philadelphia Wings forward Kevin Crowley face off in the Week #10 Spotlight.

Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant, Jr. took on Calgary Roughnecks forward Shawn Evans in last week’s Fantasy Spotlight. Both Grant, Jr. and Evans are some of the most expensive players in the fantasy challenge, but they are also some of the highest scoring. Grant, Jr. already beat some of the sport’s best in the Fantasy Spotlight last season, but how did he fair against Evans, the league’s leading scorer this year?

Here are their stats from Week #9:

John Grant, Jr.: two goals, five assists, and one loose ball for 19 fantasy points.

Shawn Evans: two goals, two assists, and five loose balls for 17 fantasy points.

As expected, this Fantasy Spotlight matchup was close. Although Grant had more actual points, Evans boosted his production with the addition of five loose balls and came within just a few fantasy points of matching Grant, Jr. The 2012 NLL MVP still managed to come out with the win and remains undefeated in the Fantasy Spotlight.

Starting this week, we’ll be pitting each of this season’s previous Spotlight winners against each other until we have a 2013 Fantasy Spotlight Champion. The Week 10 Spotlight, the first matchup in the “Winner’s Tournament,” features forwards Rhys Duch from the Washington Stealth and Kevin Crowley of the Philadelphia Wings.

Rhys Duch outscored Cody Jamieson in the Week #1 Spotlight and has consistently produced at a high level all season long. With 204 fantasy points, he currently ranks fourth in scoring among all players and is one of only three players costing $25. Duch is second in the NLL with 26 goals and leads the Stealth with 57 total points. Since goals are the most heavily-weighted stat in fantasy scoring at four points apiece, this makes Duch extremely valuable.

His opponent will be Kevin Crowley. As the winner of the Week #2 Spotlight, Crowley defeated 2012 NLL Rookie of the Year Adam Jones. He leads Philadelphia with 39 points and is the team’s top fantasy scorer among runners with 139 fantasy points in eight games. Although his fantasy production has been a little lower than usual the last few weeks, Crowley is actually on pace to surpass his actual point total from last season.

Washington faces Philadelphia on the field this weekend as well which could end up factoring into the matchup between Crowley and Duch. The last time these two teams played one another was at the start of the 2012 season. Crowley had a career-high five goals while Duch was unable to find the back of the net at all despite taking a ton of shots.
