Now that the 2013 NLL regular season has passed the halfway mark, it is time to switch up strategies in the NLL Fantasy Game. Focusing on earning as much money as possible is a good strategy for the first half of the season, but now the time has come to invest that hard-earned cash into generating as many fantasy points as possible.
Here are some suggestions which players to buy or sell for Week #10:
Garrett Billings (Toronto $25) – Billings is one of only three players currently priced at $25 but he is definitely worth spending that much money on. Although John Grant, Jr. set a new NLL points record last season, Billings was actually only a few points behind him when it came to fantasy scoring. He’s also pretty hot right now with 10 goals and 67 fantasy points (33.5 per game) over the course of his last two games.
Shawn Evans (Calgary $24) – Shawn Evans leads the NLL in scoring with 64 points as well as fantasy scoring with 215 points. He is a “three tool” player meaning he contributes across all three scoring categories (goals, assists, and loose balls). He should be in for a big game this weekend against Minnesota. Last time he faced the Swarm this season, Evans put up 34 fantasy points.
Colorado (Goalie $16) – It is true the Colorado Mammoth currently average the most goals against per game out of any team in the league (13.75 GAA). They also have the fewest fantasy points out of any goaltending pair in the fantasy challenge. They are a risky pick, but this is one risk that could pay off. Dan Lewis recently took over the job as the Mammoth’s starting goaltender and although his fantasy stats did not reflect it, he had a pretty good game against the Knighthawks last week. It is a must-win back-to-back situation for the 2-6 Mammoth this weekend and Dan Lewis will have to be on the top of his game for them to beat the East Division-leading Toronto Rock on Friday and Buffalo Bandits on Saturday.
Brett Bucktooth (Washington $13) – After a somewhat disappointing start to the season, Bucktooth has seemed to rebound nicely over the last several weeks. Bucktooth averaged just 7.1 fantasy points per game through the first six games of 2013 but has bumped that number up to 15.25 points per game over his last four. He’s currently a great value at only $13 and his price will continue to go up if he keeps playing well.
Mitch Belisle (Minnesota $4) – Belisle’s value went down after he scored zero fantasy points last week against the Stealth. He was averaging around five fantasy points per game prior to that. At his reduced price, that is over one fantasy point per dollar spent! Belisle is one bargain defenseman you can’t afford to pass up.
Calgary (Goalie $16) – If you had the Calgary goalies on your fantasy team within the last three weeks, chances are they actually hurt your team’s bottom line. In their last four games, the Roughnecks’ goaltenders have scored a grand total of negative five fantasy points. Ouch! Poulin actually had over 30 fantasy points twice earlier this season so eventually he should snap out of this current cold streak but there is no telling how long that will take and these fantasy numbers are too bad to risk putting him on your roster.
Mark Steenhuis (Buffalo $14) – Steenhuis’s role in the Bandits’ offense has changed this season. He plays less offense now and his fantasy production has suffered because of it. Steenhuis hasn’t scored a goal in four games which has really hurt his value. He started the season at $20 and is now only worth $14. Stay away.
Andrew Suitor (Minnesota $11) – Andrew Suitor tore his ACL / MCL a couple of weeks ago and was recently placed on Injured Reserve by the Swarm. Suitor will miss the remainder of the year so be sure to get him out of your lineup as soon as possible.
