Minnesota's Crawford vs. Washington's Duch

Minnesota Swarm forward Callum Crawford takes on Washington Stealth forward Rhys Duch in the Week #14 Spotlight.

Last week’s Fantasy Spotlight had Gavin Prout take on Shayne Jackson in what turned out to be a very disappointing matchup. Here are their stats from Week #13:

Shayne Jackson (vs. Philadelphia): one goal, three assists, and four loose balls for 14 fantasy points.

Gavin Prout (vs. Philadelphia): zero fantasy points – did not play!

Shayne Jackson gets the win by default this week because Prout actually did not play in the Mammoth’s game against Philly. This is the first time a player has not been in the lineup when he was part of the Fantasy Spotlight. It’s unclear as to if Prout is injured or if he was a healthy scratch. It was the third game he has missed out of Colorado’s last four but Prout also only has one point in his last two games so either reason could be a possibility.

Now it’s finally time to move onto the second round of the Winner’s Tournament! The Week #14 matchup pits Rhys Duch against Callum Crawford.

Rhys Duch is the Washington Stealth’s top scorer with 74 points (34 + 40) and ranks among the top five fantasy scorers in the league with 271 total fantasy points. Duch previously won the Week #1 and Week #10 Spotlights against Cody Jamieson and Kevin Crowley respectively. Even at $25, he has remained a reliable fantasy option all season long and has scored double-digit fantasy points in all but one game.

Callum Crawford has been on fire lately. Crawford has 86 fantasy points in his last three games – more than any other player during that time. That’s an average of 28.7 points per game! His cost has gone up considerably over the last few weeks but is still a couple of bucks cheaper than Duch at $23. Crawford has already overcome some of the game’s best by defeating Mark Matthews in the Week #4 Spotlight as well as the Rochester Knighthawks goaltending duo in the Week #11 Spotlight.

Aside from his hot streak, Crawford has one other advantage working in his favor this weekend. The fact that Minnesota is playing two games (one against the Bandits and another against the Wings) may end up helping Crawford since he will be scored for his better performance in the Spotlight. On the other hand, Duch is going up against the Calgary Roughnecks, a team that he scored 30 fantasy points against the first time he faced them.

Who do you think will have the better fantasy performance this weekend? Will Rhys Duch once again prove himself as one of the league’s best or will Callum Crawford add him to his growing list of defeated opponents? Cast your vote in the poll on the right.
