Minnesota's David Earl held lax clinics during recent trip to Central America

The Minnesota Swarm recently teamed up with Summit Orthopedics to bring lacrosse to an orphanage in Honduras, sending current transition player and former Notre Dame lacrosse captain David Earl alongside several local surgeons for the week-long medical trip to Central America.

During his visit, Earl led daily lacrosse clinics, and in total, worked with over 300 kids from Sept. 3-7.

“They were so fascinated by how it was so different than anything they had ever seen,” Earl said. “The experience provided the kids with something new and with a lot of happiness.”

The Arlotta Family and the Swarm donated sticks, nets, gear and equipment to the orphanage so that the kids are now able to play lacrosse year-round moving forward. Recently, there was a growing demand for more lacrosse equipment on the orphanage, due to the popularity of the sport.

Earl also worked closely with the folks at Summit Orthopedics during his stay, including Dr. Peter Daly of St. Paul, who is also a Notre Dame alum, and Swarm athletic trainer Dan Sonday.

“Everybody was running around with a smile on their face,” Sonday said. “The kids were literally yelling, ‘I love this!’”

Dr. Daly is the founder of the Holy Family Surgery Center, which is located on the orphanage, and he helped conduct over 270 consultations and 50 surgeries during his weeklong trip.

“It’s really gratifying to treat those who wouldn’t be treated if we weren’t there,” Daly said.
