Toronto Rock general manager Terry Sanderson has announced that forward Colin Doyle has been designated as Toronto’s lone franchise player for the 2014 season. The franchise player designation means Doyle will not become an Unrestricted Free Agent after the qualifying offer deadline passed on Oct. 29.

“Colin Doyle has meant everything to this franchise,” Sanderson said. “We are looking forward to signing Colin to a new agreement and getting the season underway.”

Doyle is the franchise’s all-time leader in goals (397), assists (585) and points (982). There are also a couple of career milestones on the horizon in 2014 for the Rock captain. The team's captain is approaching 1,000 points and 400 goals as a member of the Rock as well as 500 career goals.

A winner of six NLL championships, the 36-year old Kitchener, ON native will enter his 17th NLL season in 2014. All but three of those have been with the Rock franchise as Doyle played for the Stealth from 2007 to 2009.

Teams were able to place the franchise tag on two players and those players are paid 25% more than the maximum veteran player salary as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The deadline for teams to place a franchise designation on a player was October 29th.

The NLL and PLPA agreed on the terms of a new 7-year CBA last week and there will be a frenzy of player signings in the coming weeks as a result.

Starting on Oct. 30, teams can begin to sign rostered restricted and rostered unrestricted free agents from other teams as well as players that were on their own practice rosters in 2013. Teams are permitted to re-sign their own free agents and non-rostered unrestricted free agents at any time.
