The back-to-back champion Rochester Knighthawks announced that the team has re-signed defenseman Paul Dawson to a four-year deal. Dawson entered the league in 2007 and won his first Champion’s Cup with the Knighthawks in 2013 after being traded to the team from the Philadelphia Wings.

“I'm super excited to be back for four more years and can't wait to get started,” Dawson said.

The Knighthawks acquired Dawson on December 14, 2012 in a blockbuster trade with the Wings, which sent Paul Rabil, Jordan Hall, Joel White, Rob Campbell and a second-round selection in the 2014 Entry Draft to Philadelphia in exchange for Dan and Paul Dawson and a first-round selection in 2016.

Dawson has appeared in 97 regular season games throughout his seven years in the league and has recorded 11 goals and 33 assists. He has collected 297 loose balls and has accumulated 266 penalty minutes. On April 27, Paul Dawson scored the first game-winning playoff goal of his career. He has played in seven postseason games in his NLL career, scoring two goals, adding one assist and collecting 23 loose balls.

“He’s a big body that has a reputation. Best of all, he knows how to play that game, and he plays the game very well for us,” said Rochester Head Coach Mike Hasen. “Guys are aware when he is on the floor, most definitely. He’s a stay-at-home guy as well. A few of our guys can take a few chances knowing that Paul is going to be there to back us up.”

In 2011, Dawson notched a career-high five goals and 14 points (5+9). He grabbed a career-high 75 loose balls in 2010. He played 100 Junior “A” games with Burlington (2002-04) and Brampton (2005-06) as a goaltender. Dawson was drafted with the seventh overall pick in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft. In 2014, Dawson will enter his eighth season in the NLL and second with the Knighthawks.

Dawson and the rest of the Knighthawks are now preparing for Training Camp, which will take place at the brand new, state-of-the-art Unity Health System Total Sports Experience location in East Rochester. The first practice will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.
