The National Lacrosse League has announced a Three Stars of the Game system for the 2014 NLL season. The Three Stars will be chosen by a member of the media and announced to the fans following the conclusion of each game. The Three Stars of the Game takes the place of the league’s weekly player awards. The league will continue to award a Player of the Month & Rookie of the Month, along with the traditional end of the season awards.

Be sure to watch the games on Opening Night on Saturday, Dec. 28, make your selections for the first, second and third stars and see how they compare with the media selections announced after the game.

The back-to-back NLL champion Rochester Knighthawks will raise their championship banner at Blue Cross Arena and begin their title defense by hosting the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET for a rematch of last year's East Division Final. Meanwhile, the league's oldest rivalry enters its 23rd year when the Philadelphia Wings visit the Buffalo Bandits at First Niagara Center at 7:30 p.m. ET before the Edmonton Rush travel to take on the Colorado Mammoth at Pepsi Center at 9 p.m. ET.

Three more teams begin their season the following weekend in Week #2 as the Toronto Rock host the Calgary Roughnecks at Air Canada Centre for a matchup of 2013 regular season division champions while the Vancouver Stealth open their schedule against the Mammoth on the road.

The Roughnecks will play their home opener at Scotiabank Saddledome in Week #3 on Friday, Jan. 10. The NLL officially returns to British Columbia when the Stealth have their home opener at Langley Events Centre on Saturday, Jan. 11 while the Rush open up at Rexall Place that night as well. The Wings host their first game at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday, Jan. 12 while the Swarm host their home opener at Xcel Energy Center in Week #4 on Sunday, Jan. 19.
