Fans of the National Lacrosse League will once again gather for a weekend of camaraderie and charity while playing the game they love with the 13th annual Fann Cup tournament set for Saturday, July 26 in Chicago.

Established in 2002, the Fann Cup is a lacrosse tournament where the fans are the players and the fan clubs are the teams. They play against the fans of their rival NLL teams during a spirited weekend of both lacrosse and leisure. NLL teams are represented by clubs such as the Buffalo Brigade, Minnesota Stingers, Philadelphia Wingnuts, Rochester Krewhawks, Toronto Roadies and more.

Fann Cup 2014, which was organized by passionate lacrosse champion Ray Kincaid, will be hosted at Players Indoor Sports Center in Naperville, Illinois. Semi-pro lacrosse player and fan Zak Dorn, who broke a record and made headlines earlier this summer by recording a 118 mph shot, will serve as a referee at the event.

Proceeds will go towards the Gateway for Cancer Research and Northwest Special Recreation Association along with activities benefitting Braver than Brave in support of Buffalo Bandits veteran Shawn Williams’ son Tucker in his battle with Burkitt’s Lymphoma.

The Fann Cup raised more than $50,000 for various charities in the first 10 years of the tournament's existence through raffles, auctions and donations. The tourney, which takes place in a different city each year and is often attended by NLL players, was held in Rochester in 2013. With an event-record 150+ participants and 10 teams, the Toronto Roadies won it all and look to defend their title this year.

The tournament began in 2002 after a pickup game in Toronto when a group of Toronto Rock fans challenged the fans of the Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Knighthawks to a friendly game of lacrosse. In a few short weeks, the inaugural Fann Cup was played with the rest now history.
