The Colorado Mammoth have announced that the team has re-signed defenseman Dan Ball and signed two non-roster free-agent defensemen, Colin Boucher and Michael Simon, marking the organization’s first contracts of the NLL’s signing period for the 2015 season.
Ball appeared in 17 games with the Mammoth in his first season with the team in 2014, scoring four goals and four assists while forcing eight turnovers. Ball, who is entering his fourth year in the league, played his first two seasons with the Minnesota Swarm.
Colin Boucher, at 6-foot-5-inches and 235 pounds, was on the Bandits’ practice squad last season. Maryland native Michael Simon boasts a 6-foot-3-inch frame and has played professionally.
“Dillon Ward had a great rookie campaign for us,” said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. “One of our off-season priorities is to beef up the defense in front of him.”
The Mammoth have also officially signed restricted free agent Alex Turner, who was recently acquired by the Minnesota Swarm in a trade with the Edmonton Rush. The deadline of 72 hours for Minnesota to match the offer sheet in order to retain Turner's services has passed, making Turner the first RFA of the offseason to sign with another club.
Turner recorded three points (2+1) in three games with the Rush last season. The Kamloops, BC native is a five-year NLL veteran and returns to the Swarm after playing with Minnesota in 2010 where appeared in one game. In 2011 with the Philadelphia Wings, Turner registered a career-high 39 points (17+22) in 16 games played.
The 6-foot, 210-pound lefty forward has recorded 81 career NLL points (35+46) while playing with the Rush, Wings, Swarm and Stealth franchises. Turner was the Stealth's third-round (32nd overall) selection in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft out of Simon Fraser University.
