The Colorado Mammoth have announced that the team has re-signed defenseman John Gallant, the longest-tenured player in Mammoth history, to a one-year contract for the 2015 National Lacrosse League season.

Gallant, who played one season with the franchise before the team relocated to Denver in the summer of 2002, is also the franchise’s all-time leader in games played (190) and loose balls (873).

“When you think about this organization and you think about the defense, you immediately think of John Gallant,” said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. “He is one of the most rock-solid, intelligent players that I have ever had the pleasure to work with.”

The 36-year-old was a member of the Mammoth All-Decade Team in 2012, and has served the organization as both captain and assistant.

Colorado also inked Nick Carlson, whose 118 games in a Mammoth uniform are fourth-most all-time. Ian Hawksbee, who patrolled the back end from 2011-2013, returns after a one-year hiatus. Non-roster free agent Jake Crans completed the day’s signings. All contracts are pending league approval.

Veteran defenseman Chet Koneczny will not return for the 2015 season given a commitment to his recent appointment as Technical Director of Lacrosse Nova Scotia, the province’s governing body of the sport.
