The Knighthawks Stay Alive With Dramatic Win

The final weekend of the regular season premiered in suburban Atlanta where the visiting Rochester Knighthawks defeated the Georgia Swarm 11-10. Rochester’s win keeps their very slim playoff hopes alive, with the club heading to Philadelphia for a Sunday matchup with the already eliminated Wings. Despite moving to 10-8 on the season, the Swarm still have the potential opportunity to host a first-round playoff game.

Connor Fields scored four goals and assisted on four others, with two of his goals occurring courtesy of back-to-back successful penalty shots 1:08 apart in the first quarter. Fields’ big game puts him at 49 goals, which will allow him to enter this season’s illustrious 50-goal club on Sunday should he score one more goal. Ryan Smith and Mitch Ogilvie each added two for the victorious Knighthawks. Smith was responsible for the game-winning tally after connecting on a late fourth-quarter goal, giving Rochester their 11^th and final addition to the scoreboard.

Andrew Kew had a massive night for the Swarm posting three scores and five helpers, including three straight connectors in the third. Lyle Thompson contributed two goals and three assists, but the Swarm fell just short on this night.

The Seals Are Ready For the Postseason

Friday’s late game commenced two miles from the shores of the Pacific Ocean, as the hometown San Diego Seals easily took down the red-hot Vancouver Warriors 16-9. With second place already in their grasp, the Seals effectively bounced back following last weekend’s disappointing 13-8 defeat in Saskatchewan. Winners of five straight and six of seven, the Warriors came back to Earth in this one, but still maintain a prospective path to the postseason. San Diego’s win clinched a spot in the second season for the Panther City Lacrosse Club.

On his 31^st birthday, Wesley Berg tabulated three goals and five assists, eclipsing the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career. Curtis Dickson’s three scores and four helpers were part of a historic night as the man nicknamed “Superman” surpassed Colin Doyle for seventh place on the all-time goals list in his first game coming off the injured reserve list. Kyle Jackson had himself a hat trick, while Austin Staats’ two fruitful blasts gave him 50 for the campaign.

Keegan Bal kept up his torrid scoring pace, adding four more to his 2023-2024 resume, while Ryan Martel capped off his impressive regular season by deploying three goals and one assist.
