The National Lacrosse League has issued a summary of discipline following official league review of NLL Week 17 games played on Saturday, April 23.
New England Black Wolves transition player Ryan Hotaling has been suspended two games stemming from an illegal cross-checking incident on Georgia Swarm transition player Jordan MacIntosh at approximately the 10:23 mark of the third quarter of their game on April 23. No call was made by officials on the field, but upon league review, Hotaling has been assessed a Match Penalty for Illegal Cross-Checking (Rule 63.3) which carries an automatic two-game suspension (Rule 41.2).
The appeal of Calgary Roughnecks transition player Brandon Goodwin’s two-game suspension has been moved to a hearing. Goodwin was disciplined for an illegal cross-checking incident on Vancouver Stealth defenseman Justin Salt at the 0:31 mark of the fourth quarter during their game on Saturday, April 16. A Match Penalty for Dangerous Contact to the Head was called by officials on the floor, and upon league review, the Match Penalty was upheld for Illegal Cross-Checking (Rule 63.3) which carried an automatic two-game suspension (Rule 42.2).
The appeal of Vancouver Stealth defenseman Matt Beers’ one-game suspension went to a hearing on April 28 and the suspension was overturned by an arbitrator’s decision on Saturday. Beers was suspended one game after being assessed a major and game misconduct penalty stemming from an Elbowing (Rule 78.2) incident involving Calgary Roughnecks forward Wesley Berg at approximately the 4:05 mark of the third quarter of their game on April 9, 2016. Beers was previously assessed two non-fighting major penalties on January 30. By Accrual of Three Major Penalties in a Season (Rule 40.1), Beers received an automatic game misconduct penalty. In addition, Beers was assessed game misconduct penalties on January 23 and January 30. By accruing a total of three game misconduct penalties this year, Beers received an automatic one-game suspension for Accrual of Game Misconduct Penalties in a Season (Rule 40.2).
