Nll Top 50 Players: #9 Chris Corbeil

Edmonton’s two-way transition star ranked in single digits by IL Indoor

With preseason openers just days away and NLL Face Off Weekend 2015 presented by New Era on January 2-3 looming, the IL Indoor rankings of the Top 50 Players in the National Lacrosse League have finally reached the single digits. Edmonton Rush captain Chris Corbeil, a shutdown defender who can also light the lamp, finds himself at #9 on the list as one of the league’s most effective two-way transition players.

IL Indoor contributors Bob Chavez, Stephen Stamp and Marty O’Neill collaborated with their own Top 50 lists for a points system that produced the final list. Click the link for the player to read their full analysis on Inside Lacrosse and check back to follow the countdown all the way to No. 1.

9) Chris Corbeil – Edmonton Rush

“This speedy defender has grit and composure like the stuff legends are made of. We’ve seen him step up to the plate to take on heavyweights out of his weight class, rush end to end to deposit balls in the net and rarely take penalties while shutting down most of the leagues top defenders. While Rubish is a brute on defense Corbiel is the perfect complement of quickness and positioning making the Rush the best defense going and possibly in the history of pro lacrosse.” – Marty O’Neill

“He’s been on the rise for some time now but 2014 is the year Corbeil’s stature in the game is cemented. He plays hard, just plain hard. Whether he’s marking you and keeping pace, battling you for a loosie in the corner or getting the ball going up the floor in transition, there are few guys who go as hard and as true as Corbeil. He’s got a ton of natural ability, but taking him to the elite level is a work ethic that won’t allow him to settle for anything. He works for what he gets and deserves it all.” – Bob Chavez

“Corbeil is a complete player. He is one of the best defenders around, combining positioning, toughness, athleticism and a high lacrosse IQ. Last year his transition game evolved and he became one of the most dangerous transition players in the NLL, scoring career highs of 17 goals and 10 assists. Corbeil is also a tremendous leader. He sets the example for what you want a player to be on and off the floor.” – Stephen Stamp
