Over 150 amateur lacrosse players, along with fans from around the National Lacrosse League, will converge on July 9, 2016, at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, ON, to play in this year’s Fann Cup event, marking the first Fann Cup in Canada since 2011.
As the tournament celebrates its 15th year, the host team will be the Toronto Roadies, who are one of the founding teams of Fann Cup.
Fann Cup began in 2002 as a tournament for bragging rights between fans of rival NLL teams and has grown into a unique event as fans come together to raise money for charity and play the sport they all love so dearly. Fann Cup has raised over $70,000 for various charities in the last 14 years. This year’s charity is The Smilezone Foundation. Smilezone’s mission is to create, build and transform areas in hospitals, private treatment and development centres, and children’s clinics in order to improve the lives of children facing illness, disabilities, and physical and emotional obstacles. While charity and lacrosse are the obviously the main reasons for the event, this event allows fans from across the League to come together, have fun, and catch up during the League’s offseason.
