35 Moments: Gary Gait Wins 5th Consecutive MVP

Gary Gait wins 5th straight MVP – 4-14-1999

Gary Gait won his 5th straight MVP in 1999 and added a league record sixth trophy in 2003. The 14-time first team All-NLL spent three seasons in Philadelphia and two in Baltimore during this dominating stretch in the 1990’s. He averaged 44 goals per season, 26.4 assists and 70.4 points per season in only 10.2 games per season during the stretch. This breaks down to 6.89 points per game over 5 seasons. Gary led the league in goals scored each of his MVP seasons, led the league in assists once (1997) and led the league in points in each season except 1996 (Tavares). If Gait’s averages were applied to an 18 game schedule, he would have averaged 77.7 goals, 46.6 assists and 124.3 points per season. No other player has more than three MVP’s in their career.

Gary’s clubs would go 42-18 (.700 win %) in his 5-year stretch including the postseason. He would win a championship with Philadelphia in 1995 and making it to two other finals.
