The Mammoth and Knighthawks Bring The Drama
Saturday’s early matchup occurred at Blue Cross Arena, where the Rochester Knighthawks welcomed the Colorado Mammoth to Western New York. This conflict was highly contested from the get-go, with Rochester carving their way to a 9-7, late third-quarter advantage. Come the final frame, the men from Denver elected to harness an avalanche of offensive production, scoring four of the last five goals, including a game-tying effort by Will Malcom, and a game-winning creation courtesy of Zed Williams, with only three seconds remaining on the scoreboard, giving the Mammoth an 11-10 win. Three seconds!
Eli McLaughlin paced the Colorado conquest, notching four goals and one assist. Malcom earned a hat trick for his time, while Ryan Lee was on the philanthropic end of five assists.
Connor Fields starred per usual for Rochester, scoring one and assisting on seven. Ryan Lanchbury finished with two goals and four helpers, with Thomas McConvey and Kyle Waters combining on four blasts into the back of the net.

The Church Bells Rang Loudly In Saskatchewan
The shadow of Saskatoon International Airport was the setting for the culminating game of Week 9 with the Albany FireWolves trekking to the prairies for a tussle with the Rush. Albany sprung to an early 4-0 lead, succumbing to a Saskatchewan retaliatory onslaught, flipping a four-goal deficit to a 5-5 end of the first quarter deadlock. Up 13-12 early in the fourth, the home team went on a run, obtaining four of the final five goals, eventually closing out the New Yorkers 17-13.
Robert Church and Ryan Keenan were downright spectacular for the Rush, with Church etching five goals and five assists, while Keenan savored two scores and seven helpers. Not to be outdone, Zach Manns, Jake Boudreau and Clark Walter coalesced on six total scores.
Alex Simmons played well in the FireWolves setback, scoring two and helping on five others. Rookie star Dyson Williams attained a hat trick, to go along with three assists, as Tye Kurtz added five assists to the disappointing evening for the Albany squad.
20-year-old goalie, Thomas Kiazyk, earned his first-career win in his 1st-career start stopping 39 shots.

The Rock Are Rolling
Week 9 of the NLL season raised the curtain in Calgary, where just shy of 12,000 Alberta inhabitants spent their Friday Night at WestJet Field at Scotiabank Saddledome watching the rapidly evolving Toronto Rock capture their second consecutive win, defeating the Roughnecks 14-9. After beginning the season 0-5, the fellas from Ontario are now the proud owners of a 2-5 record.
Tom Schreiber led the way for the victors, notching three goals and three assists. Chris Boushy garnered a hat trick of his own, with Josh Dawick and Corey Small combining for a whopping 10 assists. Goaltender Nick Rose appears to have successfully course-corrected his season, knocking down 37 of 46 shots.
During the Rock’s 0-5 start, the franchise averaged a mere 8.4 goals per game, while allowing 12.6 scores. Amazingly, the above stat line has almost entirely reversed in the club’s last two outings, as Toronto has averaged 12.5 goals while giving up just 8.5 lamplighters.
Stats can knock your socks off sometimes!
On the losing side, Jesse King boasted three scores and three helpers. Mathieu Gautier found the net on three additional occasions, while Curtis Dickson assisted on five of Calgary’s nine goals in defeat.
