Black Wolves Finish Roller Coaster Regular Season Saturday

New England can clinch home playoff game with win over Vancouver

The 2017 regular season has been the definition of “up-and-down” for the New England Black Wolves. After a 0-3 start was followed up with a 3-6 record at the midway point, the Black Wolves (8-9) kept battling to get back to that .500 mark.

They finally reached that mark at 6-6 with their only three game winning streak of the season. To this point, those three games were the high mark of the season for New England, beating three playoff contenders from the East, Toronto, Georgia, then Rochester. Since that stretch the Black Wolves have been unable to break over that .500 hump as they started a loss-win pattern in the final leg of the regular season.

New England hopes that pattern continues this weekend but not any further after Saturday. The Black Wolves welcome the Vancouver Stealth (8-9) to Mohegan Sun Arena for Saturday night’s regular season finale. With a win the Black Wolves can not only clinch a playoff spot but also a home playoff game. In fact, New England can clinch a playoff spot before they even wake up on Saturday. A Rochester loss on Friday night against Georgia would eliminate the Knighthawks and clinch spots in the postseason for New England and Toronto.

In a season full of what could have beens and what should have beens, New England cannot wait to turn the page on this disappointing regular season and write a different story in the postseason. One positive that the Black Wolves can take from the regular season into the playoffs is their success against the other playoff squads. With a win Saturday against the Stealth the Black Wolves will have beaten four of the five teams joining them in the postseason, including every team in the East.

New England and Vancouver are both looking to finish the regular season with a .500 record and head into the playoffs with some positives to build on. Game time is 7:00 PM on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena.
