Get Ready for Week 15 in the NLL

Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler: Toronto in Halifax for Mardi Gras Night

The Thunderbirds are back in Halifax for Friday Night on TSN, hosting the Toronto Rock for the next leg of the March to May. There’s lots of excitement at the Scotiabank Centre this weekend, not only celebrating a belated Fat Tuesday during their Mardi Gras theme night, but also making sports broadcast history by way of the Jenner family, featuring niece and uncle broadcast duo, Maki and Teddy Jenner, teaming up to bring Halifax and NLL fans their play-by-play and color commentary for Friday’s broadcast. And what a night to do so—after their 9-5 win in Las Vegas last weekend, the Thunderbirds are now on a five-game hot streak (it should also be noted that a sixth consecutive win for the Thunderbirds this weekend would tie their longest winning streak since moving to Halifax).

Their staple transition offense was on full display against the Desert Dogs, scoring four of their nine goals on the run, including a goalkeeper-to-defender connection in the final minutes of regulation to give Tyson Bell a goal in his first game back in the purple ‘n’ orange.

Toronto, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed from their Week 14 bye game, have been the talk of the town since trading a significant portion of their defensive line last week. Friday night will be the official debut for the new hires, goalkeeper Gowah Abrams and defender Robert Hudson, both acquired from Calgary, as well as the return of transition player Phil Mazzuca from IR. This week, the Rock are on a mission to validate its trades and shake up Halifax’s playoff opportunities. Though a win won’t catapult them into the Top 3, it could spark the beginning of a March-April climb for Toronto as we inch closer to the postseason.

Tune in on March 7 at 6:30pm ET for NLL Friday Night on TSN as the Toronto Rock take on the Halifax Thunderbirds. Watch on TSN, TSN+, ESPN+, & NLL+.

A Game of Seconds and Thirds: Rose, Roughnecks square off against Bandits at KeyBank

The Roughnecks are shipping up to Buffalo for a Special Saturday-evening edition of Friday Night on TSN. The Bandits, now back on a two-game win streak, have maintained a steady hold on the number one slot after successfully boxing out the Saskatchewan Rush 9-7 this past Saturday. While this may be Calgary’s first run-in with Buffalo this season, there are still several familiar faces saddling up for a tough battle.

The Roughnecks’ recent acquisitions from the Toronto Rock, Nick Rose and Tyler Henrycks, have already seen them twice this season, falling to the Bandits in Weeks 7 and 12, only adding fuel to the Roughnecks’ fire.

While Calgary is on the move to uproot Buffalo’s March to May early on, the Bandits are eager to remain dominant in the coming weeks. Their performance in Saskatchewan showcased the lessons learned from their loss to San Diego, not only displaying their textbook team offense but also a new level of selfish play for the Bandits, as evidenced by Josh Byrne’s roll-back diving goal making the rounds this week on Box social media. Their emboldened desire to settle into the 1v1 and score is just another layer of the domineering Buffalo offense that the Roughnecks will have to find a countermeasure for; otherwise, Rose and Hendrycks will be leaving the weekend with a third loss to Buffalo under their belt.

Tune in on March 8 at 6:30pm ET for a special Saturday edition of NLL Friday Night on TSN as the Buffalo Bandits take on the Calgary Roughnecks. Watch on TSN, TSN+, ESPN+, & NLL+.

Growing the Game One Child at a Time: Rush at Swarm

If anyone’s happy to finally get away from the cold weather, it’s the neon machine. The Saskatchewan Rush are hitching a ride down to Duluth for the NLL Saturday Showcase against the Georgia Swarm. The Swarm are hosting the Rush for their annual Grow the Game Night, sponsored by Georgia Lottery, celebrating and uplifting the next generation of lacrosse players and fans in the greater Duluth-Atlanta area.

This year’s event will also include a used equipment drive in partnership with the Gwinnett Sports Commission, as well as showcase the team’s annual theme night jersey, supporting 23 local schools’ youth lacrosse programs by featuring their logos across the jerseys. With so many new and young fans in the building this weekend, the Swarm are expected to play harder than ever, looking for a third-straight win with a dub over the Rush.

After their hard-fought overtime win over Toronto in Week 13, closely followed by their 15-9 win in Ottawa last weekend, the Swarm are collecting Canadian wins like Infinity Stones, staying true to their trademark physicality and creative offensive style.

Saskatoon, though in enemy territory, can rest and play easy knowing their neon cheering section is with them in spirit every step of the way, hooting and hollering from the Hunters Bowling Centres, now designated as the official Rush Away Game Watch Party Zones. Despite the good times and community efforts, the Saturday Showcase is far from another day at the office, harboring major playoff implications regardless of the victor. Saskatchewan has held the number two spot comfortably for weeks now, while the Swarm has fluctuated between the three, four, and five spots since falling from the peak in Week 6. A win over the #2 Rush could finally bump them back into the Top 3 (weather depending, of course), and a loss for the Rush could be just the moment Halifax has been waiting for to swoop in and snatch the #2 slot from Saskatchewan in Week 16.

Tune in on March 8 at 7:30pm ET for this weekend’s Saturday Showcase as the Calgary Roughnecks take on the Georgia Swarm. Watch on TSN+, ESPN+, & NLL+.

Warriors, Seals Duke It Out For A Good Cause

Continuing our trend of community outreach, Friday night’s matchup between the Seals and the Warriors is San Diego’s Stick Up for a Cure Night, presented by the Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego. If $5 beers and good lacrosse weren’t enough to convince West Coast fans to come out, players will also wear custom Stick Up jerseys featuring the names of individuals who have been impacted by cancer. All of the proceeds from the Stick Up for a Cure benefit the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital.

Both teams are fresh off their bye weeks, ready to get down to business as the Warriors make their way to San Diego. The Seals have their work cut out for them this weekend, as they’re not only hosting one of the best defensive squads in the League, but they also owe the Warriors for their 11-9 loss in Vancouver in Week 7. San Diego is looking to make a statement this weekend, proving to the rest of the League that their win over the Bandits was not a stroke of luck, and their roster swaps indicate they’re planning to prove it on the offensive end. Now, three weeks since his signing and addition to the Physically Unable to Perform List, Pat Kavanagh is rumored to make his NLL debut as a Seal this weekend. As of March 1, the Seals have placed Kavanagh on the Active Roster from the Practice Player List (maintaining his Protected Practice Player Tag) but have yet to officially confirm his appearance. Should he be cleared for play, Kavanagh, alongside offensive standouts Wes Berg and Tre Leclaire, may be more than the Warriors bargained for.

Tune in on March 7 at 10:30pm ET as the Vancouver Warriors take on the San Diego Seals. Watch on TSN+, ESPN+, & NLL+.

Albany FireWolves @ Rochester Knighthawks 02/28/25 (Photos for NLL by Jonathan Tenca)

Echoes of Week 1 in Paradise Valley

The Knighthawks are finally back in the win column, having stacked up two consecutive wins in Weeks 13 and 14 against Calgary and Albany. With their offense running on all cylinders and their defense looking more cohesive than ever, Las Vegas may be worse for wear heading into this weekend’s Week 1 rematch. The Desert Dogs have found mixed success so far this season, plagued by an inability to generate in transition or in a settled offense.

Recent trades with the Philadelphia Wings (Simpson, Cattoni) have, so far, yet to yield substantial results, as the Desert Dogs have only played one game since. Now, despite previously sharing a spot in the bottom four alongside Las Vegas, Rochester finds themselves in a steady climb up the rankings, occupying the number seven slot just above the Seals. With the trade deadline now days away, the Knighthawks are preparing to outfit their offensive line, having just received forward Brad McCulley from Vancouver in exchange for their sixth-round selection in the 2026 Entry Draft and their third-round selection in the 2027 Entry Draft. McCulley is currently on the Evaluation List, but is expected to make his first appearance as a Knighthawk in the near future.

Dear Wingston, Count Me In: Firewolves at Wings for Emo Night

The Firewolves are back on the road to the City of Brotherly Love, settling in for their rematch with the Philadelphia Wings. The win is still fresh in the Firewolves’ minds, as the two played each other in Albany just two short weeks ago (11-6). As of March 5, Albany has done a significant reshuffling of their cards in preparation for Saturday’s fight, moving forwards Ben MacDonnell and John Piatelli up to the Active Roster and once again placing Jackson Nishimura on IR after reinjuring himself against Rochester. Additionally, this will also be Kyle Jackson’s first game with the Firewolves after being traded by San Diego in exchange for Albany’s fourth-round selection in the 2025 Entry Draft and a second-round selection in the 2026 Entry Draft.

Similarly, this will also be the first game for the Wings’s new hires, debuting defenders Mitch de Snoo and Chis Corbeil, both acquired from Toronto, as well as transition Shane Simpson, traded from Las Vegas.

These additions to the defensive end and transition game could provide the much-needed support the Wings are in desperate need of, allowing their forwards to focus on the play at hand and giving their fans a cohesive d-line.
